2 Ways to Find the Perfect Location

Option 1- Wander the deserts and mountains of Southern Utah until you find the perfect place. Figure out who the landowner and land authorities are. Figure out if weddings are allowed there, and if so what is the permitting process is and what the timelines are to apply. Maybe give up and choose a crowded tourist location with lots of unexpected guests and photo bombers.

I get it, finding a great spot is hard.

It is also expensive when you try to do it yourself with extra cost of time off work, gas, and days added to your trip. And really no one has time to drive the millions of roads the run through Utah’s 5 National Parks, 42 State Parks, 3 National Monuments, 2.8 million acres of Forest Service land, and 22.9 million acres of BLM land, and if you are not a local you will not know how to access great spots hidden on private land.

Option 2- Hire local help.

The location scout/location coordinator will need to have vast knowledge of all National and State Parks, Forest Service lands, Bureau of Land Management, as well as private and other local public lands. Your professional will need to be versed in the application process for all locations.  Some photographers include this as part of their services. Make sure you ask your photographer what services they provide. The cheapest option is not always the least expensive after you factor in all services provided or not provided. Outland Officiant has a very affordable package that includes location scouting.

When looking for your perfect spot I start with your vision using a questionnaire to learn all about your priorities and desires for a location. Then I consider several variables such as accessibility during different times of the year because of weather, crowds, and vehicle restrictions make a huge difference. Knowing the realistic hike times can make all the difference between getting the epic sunset photo or getting married in the dark. I consider the clearance of you vehicle and your willingness to hike. You will get a short list of the best location that matches your wedding vision, date, and your desire to balance epic views and privacy. Learn more about what is included in our location scouting package on our “Services and Pricing” tab.
