Pay the application fee- Fees are $98 in cashier's check, money order, cash, credit/debit card.

  • Note:  the Williams Justice Court does not accept cash as payment. Please use a cashier's check or money order only at that location.

  • Note: the Flagstaff clerk's office does accept credit/debit cards, but only this location.

WHEN TO APPLY

Up to one year before- The marriage license is valid for one year and can be used for a marriage anywhere within the State of Arizona.

Do not wait until the last moment to apply. While it is possible to complete the in person application and be issued a license in less than an hour before your ceremony, it is not a good idea to wait until the day before your wedding to apply. When possible, applying at least 7 days before the wedding gives you time to handle any issues that may arise.

AFTER YOU APPLY

License is Issued- Once you have completed the application and paid the fee you will be able to walk out of the office with your marriage license in your hand.

Wedding- The marriage must be performed within one year of the date of issuance of the license.

Return License- The marriage license will need to be returned within 10 days after the marriage ceremony.  The license can be mailed in or dropped off.  The recorded license will then be mailed to the address of record provided at the time of license issuance.

After the marriage ceremony the officiant will help you complete the certificate. The following items will need to be added to the license:

  • Date of ceremony

  • City and county of ceremony

  • Officiant’s name, title, and signature

  • Signature of both applicants (sign the last name used on the application, NOT the future name you want to go by)

  • Name and signature of two witnesses that were present during the ceremony and that are over the age of 18.

After the officiant completes their section of the license, you or the officiant must return the license within 10 days to the courthouse that it was issued from. The court will record the marriage in their files and may endorse the back of the license with a signature and a seal. The certificate will be mailed to you at the address you used for the application for applicant number one.

Important Notes:
